Alan Beckley - MSc, LL.M, LL.B, FCMC, FRSA

 

Alan is a company Director of Abdab Ltd.  Prior to moving to full time management consultancy, he served 30 years in public service management and training as a Senior Police Officer, also working freelance as a management consultant and an OFSTED lay school inspector.

His two key sectors of expertise are Central Government and the police and criminal justice sector, where he has successfully completed many assignments in the UK and internationally where he specialises in change management and programme / project management assignments.  In addition to work with national public sector organisations in the UK he has worked directly with many Local Authorities and Police Forces. Alan has also completed many consultancy assignments with public sector departments in Europe on behalf of The Council of Europe and the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

He is a qualified European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) / Business Excellence Model Assessor and has worked as an Assessor with Midlands Excellence and the West Midlands Local Government Association Best Value Scheme on several assessments of private sector and public sector organisations.  He has also completed Comprehensive Performance Assessments of local authorities in the midlands as an assessor.

Alan is also an External Verifier for awarding body Chartered Management Institute (CMI) with international approved and registered training centres delivering management and management consultancy qualifications. For the QIA (now LSIS) Diploma Support Programmes 1 and 2 (current) he was appointed as a Lead Trainer by the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust (SSAT) for the Society, Health and Development Diploma.  He is also an approved trainer for the Learning and Skills Network and has been trained in DSP2 Diploma Delivery and Assessment training courses.  He works as a Quality Assurance consultant for QCA (Qualifications and Curriculum Authority)

 

CONSULTANCY WORK

 

Examples of education consultancy projects:

1. Strategic and operational work on delivery of the Diplomas working with Local Authorities, Wolverhampton University, Salford University, Diploma Consortia, QIA, SSAT, LSN, Awarding Bodies and QCA.

2. Work with DCSF on programme / project management of the roll-out of major educational programmes such as: the 14-19 Programme; Increased Flexibility Programme, Work-Based Learning Programme; Enterprise Education Programme.

3. Research projects relating to the quality of the delivery of NVQs and the DCSF Quality Improvement Programme delivered through the LSC. Also an evaluation of the cost-benefits of the Aimhigher spending in the Birmingham / Solihull area.

4. Work with Awarding Bodies and Training Providers to ensure good management and quality control. client: Various Awarding Bodies such as Edexcel, Chartered Management Institute

5. Work with colleges to establish new ways of working, staff appointments through competency-based interviewing and assessment centres

6. Work with Consortia in planning, preparing Gateway bids and programme project management for Diploma roll-out.
